Billy Burnette - Memphis In Manhattan (CD)
The son of rockabilly star Dorsey Burnette and the nephew of rock'n'roller Johnny Burnette, Billy Burnette began his career as a country performer at the tender age of seven in 1960. During his long career Burnette has built up an extensive list of songwriting credits, including hits with Faith Hill, Rod Stewart, Ray Charles, Roy Orbison, Jerry Lee Lewis, Fleetwood Mac, Cher, Dolly Parton and others.
As a solo artist he has made albums for Polydor, Columbia and Warner Bros, but it's as a sideman that he's become best-known. Fleetwood Mac offered him a spot replacing Lindsay Buckingham and he appeared on Fleetwood Mac's Greatest Hits (1988) and Behind the Mask (1990), and toured with the band constantly. He has been a member of John Fogerty's band for the past year and a half and he has also toured with Bob Dylan.
'Memphis in Manhattan' represents a return for Burnette to his country/rockabilly roots and it features his own material alongside compositions by Bob Dylan, Peter Green, Boudleaux & Felice Bryant and Dorsey and Johnny Burnette.
